What is the format of your classes? Great cooking isn’t about recipes. It’s about techniques. You will feel comfortable and confident the moment you enter our kitchen! Our Instructors are professionals and create a fun and interesting learning environment.
We have two different class formats:
Hands on/Demonstration: These are full participation classes where students take part in practicing techniques and preparing the menu items covered in that class.
Demonstration: These classes are designed as observation classes where participants will watch while Chef Instructors explain and show food preparation and cooking techniques.
The type of instruction will be noted in the description of every class. Classes will be 2 to 4 hours depending on the material being covered. During class you may be standing for much of the time preparing food hands on. Please wear comfortable clothing and closed toe nonskid type shoes. You will enjoy a generous taste of all food prepared in class so don’t be afraid to show up with your appetite. Classes may be in individual or team format. Instructors will decide how teams will be set up and chosen.
Will I get to eat? You will learn about classic and innovative cooking techniques, global flavors, and emerging trends in food and cooking. Incredibly delicious food will be prepared in the process. Students will get to eat what we prepare in class.
What if I have a food allergy? We use common ingredients in our classes and all ingredients may not be listed in the class description. if you have a food allergy we ask that you understand our goal is to teach cooking techniques and it will not always be possible to change class menus and ingredients to accommodate those with allergies. It is best to call us and ask about a specific class so we may better help you.
What is your class cancellation policy? We understand that life happens and emergencies do occur. However, we also hope you understand our commitment to all of our students and the preparation that goes into creating a successful class.
For this reason:
- All regularly scheduled class cancellations purchased from our web site or in person are non-refundable
- Classes cannot be swapped
- Gift Vouchers cannot be refunded
- If you cannot attend a scheduled class, we encourage you to send someone in your place. In this case, please call ahead and notify us of the participant change
- Privately scheduled events and private virtual classes can be re-scheduled or cancelled 6 weeks in advance of the scheduled event date and a 25% processing fee will be charged for the cancellation or re schedule. No refunds will be granted for cancellation or re-schedule requests for privately scheduled classes after the 6 week window.
If for any reason The Cutting Edge Classroom Cooking School LLC needs to cancel or reschedule a class:
- You will be notified prior to the class and as soon as possible by email to the address you listed at the time of registration
- You will be given the option of attending a rescheduled class if offered or a credit voucher to use on another class
- We reserve the right to cancel classes due to chef illness, insufficient enrollment, or any other reason that makes it necessary to do so
- If we cancel a class due to inclement weather, we will notify you as soon as that decision is made
What is the deadline to register for a class?
We ask that you register no later than one day prior to a class so we can make sure to have enough product on hand for everyone. Since classes are first come first serve we recommend that you register as soon as possible. You may call us after the deadline to request late enrollment admission.
Can I be transferred to a different cooking class?
Once you purchase a class we cannot transfer you to another for any reason. If you are unable to attend you are welcome to send someone in your place after you notify us of the change.
Can someone else take my place in a class if I’m not able to attend?
Yes! Just notify us in advance by email with the person’s name and phone number.
Will I be required to sign a waiver?
Yes, all participants will be required to sign a waiver before the start of class. For children under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian is required to complete and sign the waiver. Once you have a waiver on file your all set for one year!
What should I wear to my cooking class and what is the dress code?
You will want to wear comfortable clothes and non-slip closed-toe shoes. We will provide an apron and a hat. Please pull long hair back so that hair does not pose a safety or health issue for you and others in the class. During the current covid mandates we require masks be worn as well.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
No, all supplies, food, materials, ingredients, and towels will be provided for you to use during class.
What is the age requirement for adult classes?
For most Adult classes, the age requirement is 16 and over. You may call to find out if an adult class is suitable for the 16-18 age range.
What is the age requirement for children’s classes?
For most Kids classes, the requirement is 9-15 years of age. Parent/Child classes are ages 5-15. You may call us to request an exception if you feel you have special circumstances or needs. Age requirements may differ for parent child classes. We can accept students between the ages of 16 and 18 for certain adult classes. Parents may drop off their child or wait in the lobby. Parents are not allowed to wait in the instructional kitchen unless approved by The Cutting Edge Staff.
What do you provide?
We provide food, tools, aprons, hats, and instruction to complete each class.
What type of beverages will be served?
We provide water and coffee. Soft drinks are included in most party packages.
Do you serve alcohol?
Yes! Wine by the bottle or glass, hard ciders, seltzers, and beer will be available to purchase during class. Our alcohol consumption policy requires guests to wait until meal time to consume alcohol for safety reasons.
