Enjoy a culinary adventure to Mexico without leaving Knoxville in this fun, hands-on, and interactive class! Ever wonder how these amazing Mexican treats are prepared? Tamales, beloved comfort food served for festivals, birthdays, holidays, and everyday meals are a staple in Mexico. They date back thousands of years, even before the Mayans and Aztecs. The portable-filled husks have fed generations of families (and armies) from Mexico to Argentina. This delicious corn meal masa wrapped in corn husks or banana leaves can be filled with almost anything, most commonly with shredded pork, beef, or chicken, while sweet tamales feature fruit or raisins, and coconut. In this class, you will learn how to prepare homemade savory and sweet tamales hands-on! Our Chef will walk you through the steps of making masa, an amazing hot pepper sauce, and fillings. Then we will move on to rolling and steaming our tamales. Best of all you will get to eat what we make in class so come hungry! There will be plenty of tequila and margaritas to choose from!
